It would appear our new antenna has caused a drop in witnesses, but we actually witnessed more on Saturday then we did on Thursday. Now we install a new antenna on Saturday, but we don't change the specs in our Helium app. Notice the count varies by day, even though the above example is the same miner, in the same location, with the same antenna. In the above check, we have 36 witnesses. Your witness list is cumulative of the last 5 days of activity. When you purchase a new antenna for your Helium miner, your witness list will not update automatically and immediately after changing antennas. The most common shielding grades are 200, 400, and 600. Choosing a cable with a higher shielding grade will offer less dB loss. The higher the shielding the stronger the signal sent from your hotpot. Shielding is what prevents electrical interference. Once you've selected your antenna, you're going to need to select a compatible shielded cable. Learn more about how to choose an appropriate antenna for your miner here. This will offer maximum range for reaching those far away hotspots. For rural environments, we recommend the 8 to 10 dBi antenna. You won't need as much vertical range as in a city so this would provide a good trade-off between the horizontal reach and vertical beamwidth of the antenna.
Typically in the suburbs, you'll be best off with a 4 to 8 dBi antenna. One of the best choices you can make is getting an appropriate antenna for your location, whether you're in the city, suburbs, or out in a rural environment.
